Worksmith News: Worksmith Kitchen Build Just like any venue, it has taken us a little longer than expected to gain permission to start building our commercial kitchen here at Worksmith. We are now underway, with expected completion by mid-November.
The kitchen will provide a space for Worksmith members (and non-members) to prep for events and trial new products.

Worksmith Event: Square One Coffee Mexican Coffee Release Please join our partners Square One Coffee Roasters for a beer to celebrate the release of two very special Mexican lots recently secured at Caravela’s Aromas Competition!
A night of talks with our very special guest, Mark from Caravela Coffee, about why Mexican coffee production is percieved the way it is, the production challenges Mexico currently face, and how Caravela are trying to help the coffee farmers produce higher quality coffee, in return fetching a higher price for their hard work.

Worksmith News: Farmwall Partnership At Worksmith we have been steadily changing our processes to ensure that we are doing everything we can to minimise environmental impact wherever possible. From removing our coffee waste from landfill through Reground, or using Sol Cups & Water Bottles to remove the need for disposable coffee cups.
With these ideas in mind it is with immense pride that we have partnered with Farmwall, a closed loop living wall system. We currently have a variety of greens grown on the wall in which the members use for their lunch or package up to take home. We are excited to have Farmwall join the Worksmith community where we will work together to grow their network.

Watch: Grow Assembly Sydney — Change with Bernice Colcomb, The Star Grow Assembly ventured into Sydney for its first event outside of Melbourne in early May, The theme of Change explored ideas from a team of hospitality legends from Neil Perry AM, Joanna Savill & Mitch Orr.
Bernice Colcomb has twenty-five years’ experience as a qualified Chef, with roles across a variety of cuisines and kitchen styles. Extending from fine dining to production kitchens, she has managed teams of over thirty-five, including the opening of the Harvest Buffet at The Star Sydney. It is her extensive experience which makes her a valuable advocate for youth of today in the culinary world.

The director of international communications agency Lotus International, Monica Brown is renowned worldwide for her management work with some of the world’s biggest names in food including Heston Blumenthal, Tetsuya Wakuda, Rainer Becker, Alex Atala and Clare Smyth. Since launching the original company Lotus PR in 2000, the world of Lotus has grown from a one-woman start-up from a London kitchen to a fully- fledged communications agency at the forefront of the culinary industry, with offices in both the UK and Australia.
Worksmith Event: Not Too Early presented by Turnip Media When you work in hospo, you don’t want to get up too early, so Worksmith and Turnip Media have collaborated to bring you some leaders in their fields to share their experiences and tell their stories, at a reasonable hour.
Each talk will offer a unique insight from members of and contributors to the food, drink and hospitality industries. Subjects as varied as photography, the art of service, mental health awareness and how to make mozzarella will be covered in the talks held on the first Monday of the month at 11am, starting on August 6 with The Art of Service.

Event: The Truth About Vermouth The Front Desk recently featured the Book of Vermouth from the legends behind Maidenii. The book launch is set to take place next week at the State Library Victoria.
The evening will feature an exclusive viewing of stunning botanical prints from the State Library’s collections, including illustrations from botanist Joseph Banks’ florilegium, created during Captain Cook’s voyage around Australia and the Pacific between 1769 and 1771. The cocktail menu will be complemented by canapés created by food&desire.
Industry News: Fancy Free If you haven’t had the pleasure of being served by any of the four legends who make up Fancy Free, I feel a little sorry for you.
Chris Hysted-Adams (Black Pearl), Rob Libecan (Mr Lyan), Matt Stirling (Black Pearl) & Ryan Noreiks (The Lark) all come from bars that the industry loves and secretly wish they created.
They come together for an all star team that will inevitably create a best in class bar for not only Melbourne, but the world over. Whilst they search for a site, they have a schedule that would rival John Farnham’s ‘Last Time’ tour.

Food News: Bar Liberty team to open Italian Restaurant, Capitano It is with huge excitement that I announce the opening of Capitano by the team behind Bar Liberty in Fitzroy. Capitano will take over the space previously known as the Beaufort and will open in early August.
Worksmith News: Podcasting Room & Gordon Legal Partnership After a little renovation at Worksmith we will have a podcasting room available for all members to use. The room is also available to hire for non-members.
A huge thanks to Gordon Legal who have partnered with Worksmith as a Premium Partner. Their support has gone towards building the podcasting room. Gordon Legal will also provide legal advice to all Worksmith members through workshops and one on one meetings.
